Beginning with Law Enforcement Basic Training Class No. 508, DOCJT will offer a program where recruits will receive an associate’s degree while in training free of charge to all hiring agencies. Class No. 508 begins Sept. 22, 2019. DOCJT is collaborating with Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC). The degree in applied science will allow law enforcement officers to benefit in the areas of critical thinking and improved communication skills through diverse situations, and in-depth studies from accounting to ethics.
HOW IT WORKS:
The 20-week basic training course for all new law enforcement will transfer into 45 credit hours recognized by BCTC. The partnering college will provide the remaining 15 credit hours via online courses, for the student to receive a full 60 credit hour associate’s degree.
EDUCATION BENEFITS CARRY OVER TO BACHELOR’S OR MASTER’S DEGREES:
After completion of the associate’s degree program through BCTC, all officers will have the opportunity to begin the career development program, to further their education with bachelor’s and master’s degree credit from yearly in-service training.
