The Kentucky Deflection Academy is offering a free, one-day training on Aug. 18, from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. at the Lexington Public Library, Northside Branch, located at 1733 Russell Cave Road.  The training is for law enforcement officers, first responders, public health professionals, behavioral health providers, and community partners. The training focuses on practical deflection strategies, de-escalation, substance use and mental health awareness, referral pathways, and building stronger connections to community services.

The core learning areas include:

• Deflection principles and the six pathways.

• Substance use disorder science, stigma and language.

• Overdose prevention, naloxone and outreach engagement.

• Situational awareness, safety and de-escalation.

Participants will engage in interactive discussions, scenario-based exercises, and receive certificates of completion, access to online training materials, and continuing education credits. Register here.
